Another eventful day for the whole crew. This morning, after breakfast, two of the crew in wheelchairs went aloft and there were also several assisted climbs, all watched by many locals on the quayside.

In a change from the usual routine, the morning watch was woken a little early. Some would consider this unfortunate, as we had enjoyed some delicious mojitos mixed expertly by our engineers for sun-downers the night before.

A steady night has found us off south Gran Canaria again . Gliding into the anchorage in the mid afternoon, first mate Chris called all hands to bathe as one by one the crew threw, jumped, bombed and timidly lowered themselves into the sea; with help from a team on deck to lower the adventurous wheelchair users into the crystal blue water – for some this was a new experience!

We arrived off Saint Pierre a small seaside town in Martinique just after breakfast on Mon 14 Feb and anchored off. The views as we approached the island were stunning with the splendid volcanic mountain of Mont Pelee shrouded in mist.

As we awoke with a little sun in our face, we felt a lot better than the day before. By about 9am we were at a standstill just outside the coast of Martinique.

The journey wasn't as rough as the day before. Never-the-less, we were still a bit seasick. For a small portion of the day we were stuck at one point as a few of the crew were trying to get the sails in order.

For Valentines’ Day we didn’t get any red roses or Milk Tray but 37 Voyage Crew who have now settled into their bunks, had the briefing to keep them safe overnight and have now found either the ship’s bar or have headed out to the local hostelries!

We sailed towards the NE of Guadelope and through the night towards Antigua in intending to have an ETA of 1030 at the entrance of Falmouth Harbour on Thursday 10th.

Santa Catalina has become a very pleasant home , as we work and play here. Our daily routine is producing good results as we prepare the ship to welcome two more voyage crews , and then ofcourse , the voyage home.

We had a very pleasant sail for most of yesterday afternoon. Earlier on we had sailed past the abandoned town of Plymouth - where it was all too easy to see the devastation caused by the lava outpourings of this still active volcano.

Three sisters who lead quite seperate lives meet for a week together on Lord Nelson. We enjoyed an amazing reunion, and great company.The added fun provided by the Irish film crew making a documentary was the icing on the cake.

0930am and we sailed off anchor for Guadeloupe, and managed to get 9 sails up. In the afternoon unfortunately we had to take the majority down in order to stay on course. Just as well, as by now we need to shake off those calorie ridden muffins that appear as if by magic!

Getting from the DOTI boat onto the ladder was interesting with the swell! Steve and Mr Chipps, the engineers, invited us on deck for pre-dinner Mohito's, we watched the sun set, gently swaying in the swell, 26 degrees with a welcome breeze, who said life isn't good!

The Permanent Crew this voyage are ..Captain John Etheridge , Mate Barry , 2nd Mate David , Lesley the Bosun , Engineers Marco and Alec. We are also welcoming Ken as a supernummary engineer this week. The fantastic cook is Will, assisted by his " ass" Peter, and we have our happy BMs Ned and Neil.

"We spotted some turtles with their heads above the water. During the night a flying fish landed on deck and the watch preserved it in an ice-cream tub for inspection. BBQ on board this evening, another of Hammy's triumphs, followed entertainment co-coordinated by Ronan and his guitar on deck along with our rendition of Shirley Height's steel drum band, topped off with a Scottish reel..."
