To bring a ship such as the Lord Nelson from the Azores to home waters in Southampton is no mean feat, especially so when the majority of the crew are new to sailing and tall ships.

It was a peculiar awakening this morning by the cook's assistant; we were all wished Merry Christmas and a 1/3 and have enjoyed a Christmas cake for smoko and we are all looking forward to a roast turkey for dinner.

Under motor on a blue sea, under a blue sky - but sadly it's getting cloudier by the minute.
No significant sightings this afternoon, although several long tailed terns were spotted very far from home.

Current position N32 19.57, W62 36.56. Having travelled just over one hundred miles under sail overnight, the morning brought lighter winds on a course further south than intended.

Yipee
Today is the day we set sail heading off for the Azores. Bermuda is a truly beautiful island and its people so warm and welcoming but nevertheless it is wonderful to be at sea.

After Smoko this morning we started to hand sail, we braced (turned ) the yards 60 degrees to Starboard, handing T’gallants on the main & foremasts we also furled the outer jib.

That was a good talk – clear, great understanding, and put in a simple manner that even the simplest of us could understand what better spontaneous compliment a Mate could have for his sailing talk! Furthermore the sailing cannot be described – it has to be experienced.

New voyage crew went to sea on the 5th April. Leaving Ponta Delgada, we inadvertently upset the port pilot by taking up the gangplank before he could board us.

At long last we have spotted something on the radar shortly before the end of our 8 to midnight watch. We are certain there was something so we all looked but even though it was only 1.5 nm away we could not see any lights to identify this ‘boat’ as it drifted past slowly to our port. What was it???

Day 3: We are now 129 miles away from Nassau and 700 miles away from Bermuda. Although we’ve been sailing for only 24 hours, it feels much longer – in a very good way.

The adventure continued as The Tenacious anchored off the Bimini Islands on Wednesday morning. Both inflatable boats were lowered to the surface of the turquoise-coloured sea and the voyage crew, including those in wheelchairs, took their seats to be ferried ashore.

A new crew joined Tenacious throughout the day of the 24th march. They were greeted by sunny blue skies and sandy beaches that are found in Nassau.
