SAIL DAY: This morning evacuation procedures were gone through with the crew and practice drill. The first climb took place after smoko. James, Cook Assistant made a lovely fridge cake for smoko and it was very popular with all the crew.

Maintenance in the sun is going well. An amazing group of volunteers (Jon, Howard, Ivor, Tom, Colin, Jot and many others) have spent the last 10 days disassembling, grinding, sanding, priming, painting and now reassembling the forward deckhouse

The wind died on us late afternoon, yesterday, so reluctantly all square sails were handed at 1700hrs. We had a calm starry night with the odd shooting star and aircraft tracking across the sky that being the only action to report.

We are making fantastic progress in maintenance, with a team of hard workers. The on deck painting has begun, after all the needle gunning and priming, and the peace and quiet is bliss!

Forward Port
At around 6 o'clock on Wednesday morning, we arrived at the British Virgin Islands. During the approach, we passed Fallen Jerusalem, an island that looks like an old ruined city when the sun rises behind it.

We had a good night at sea -mostly under motor as the wind dropped, it was an easterly wind. Bringing the Calima - a fog of sand which stuck to every thing, and blocked out the sun in the evening, as it came round from the South of Gran Canaria...

Forward Starboard
07/03/12 We started our day docked in Portsmouth,Dominica, where we had been allowed to go ashore and enjoy the flavour and local colour and visit the many stalls in the street markets, which I did - and the country's economy is now much enriched.

We are racing along, doing 6.5 knots under sail! Beautiful, deep blue sea, with foaming white crests, blue sky and sunshine. We saw a large pod of whales off the starboard side during happy hour, but are awaiting a visit from the dolphins that we usually see around here.

We arrived in Dominica yesterday not long after lunch. We immediately set to placing the gangway on the dock. Taxis were arranged and after securing the moorings and gangway the crew gave a roaring song and applause for Watchleader Emma's 30th birthday.

LN807 is drawing to an end, as we are approaching Las Palmas, planning to be at the pier heads at 14.30. Last night was "lively" from around 16.00,as the wind got up, and we made 9 knots, close hauled at one point!
