It was our watches turn to use the washing machine today, great news all clean clothes again! At morning ‘smoko’ we had a marvellous cake decorated with an icing sugar commando knife in celebration of the 348th birthday of the Royal Marine Corps.

This is THE life. The seas are getting bluer, the skies clearer and the sun warmer. A large rolling sea is making life difficult below but lots of fun for those on deck as we effortlessly sail to 9 knots - with several people up the foremast admiring the view.

Troon was very cold and the hot porridge at breakfast was well received by
all the crew closely followed by the full cooked breakfast - another good
day for weight watchers recruits ahead!

Day 8 26th Oct
We’re now exactly 70 miles due west of Cape Finisterre after a truly wonderful sail across the Bay of Biscay, with just one day of uncomfortable weather with winds gusting 25 knots! Last night we came on watch to find the sea bathed in silver moonlight and such a good wind that at one point we reached 7.5 knots with 9 sails set.

We had breakfast and then cast off from Troon. Once we had cleared from the
the harbour we set sail and course for Belfast . After lunch the clouds came
out and the sun creeped through.

After nightfall with the sails duly hauled we motored northwards. The cloudy
sky gradually cleared and the Tenacious negotiated passage towards Troon
with the dark waters glimmering under a gibbous moon.

Sail hauled on Tuesday evening and course altered as we motored northwards across some busy shipping lanes. During a cloudy windy night some course changing was required (in accordance with Col Reg) to avoid the various vessels making their way across the Irish Sea.

Monday afternoon saw the oncoming voyage crew getting accustomed to their new surroundings on big T. After a brief introduction, a welcome from the skipper, dinner, everybody abandoned ship mustering in the Ferryman, albeit after the bosun's mates.

Day 6 24th Oct 12 The winds picked up and we are over half way through the Bay of Biscay. We’re all clinging on in big swell with 20 knot winds, pushing us along at 7.5 knots. We had a visitor this morning, a whale came by to say hello.

It was a small group of volunteers that met up in the morning of November 8th to do some of the many tasks needed to keep the Tenacious running smoothly. After a hearty welcome and a hearty breakfast we were divided between Engineering and Bosun duties.
