Day 34
21st Nov
The curse has
finally been lifted on Aft Port watch as we were not soaked by a tropical rain
storm just as we come up on the bridge unlike the previous three occasions! It
is a beautiful clear day with a cooling breeze blowing but not in the right
direction for the squaresails although we have the staysails and the engines
pulling us along at 6.5 knots.
Heading
towards Penidos de Sao Pedro e Sao Paulo a 19 meter rock, with light, sticking
out of the Atlantic – Wayman wants me to add that this amazing rock is 3,500
metres off the sea bed and as there is very little shipping or even wildlife, we
are looking forward to seeing this rock even though Captain Barbara tells us we
are likely to pass in the early hours of tomorrow morning so it will be dark!
Then on to the equator and crossing the line ceremony probably the next day.
Plenty of scheming going on and "items" under construction being hurriedly
covered up as we go into the chartroom! There are a handful of
shellbacks who have crossed the line before but most of us are pollywogs and not
sure what is in store for us!!!
What with
another washday looming, passing St Peter & St Pauls rock in the dark
and the crossing the line, the excitement is definitely
building but more tomorrow …..
