TNS 396 Day 4 and 5
Having motored all the way from Genoa we anchored off Olbia on Sardinia for the night before heading into the port with our friendly pilot. We berthed along the harbour quay and became the town’s newest tourist attraction. For the first time we saw the sun and enjoyed the pleasant temperature. We spent the day exploring the small town, playing Frisbee, and frequenting the coffee shops. Led by young Mikael a number of us reached the dizzy heights at the top of the foremast to see the sunset over the mountains. We descended again to eat in the pizzeria and it was warm enough (just about) to sit outside in the bar gazing over Tenacious.
Day 5 saw an early start for assisted climbs. Carly, Tony, John, Neil, and Enrico all made it up to the platform in glorious sunshine. We left port in calm weather to run south down the east coast of Sardinia and can see its high mountains hazy to starboard. The wind is right on our nose so again we have to motor with just a couple of fore and aft sails. Wind speed 20-30 (force 6), Course 180 heading in the direction of Sicily, speed over ground 7 knots, wave height – big enough to splash the girls sunbathing on the bowsprit!
