Tenacious 391 20th – 23rd December 2013 We arrived in Barcelona ready for our exciting Christmas voyage on the 20th of December. All of the voyage crew seemed full of energy, and we were all raring to go and enthusiastic to meet everyone else. We spent the first day in harbour, learning the ropes (literally!) […]

This morning we are on the morning watch from 4am to 8am, and its busy and pretty chilly up here on the bridge. We have had to alter course to port and slow down to avoid a tanker, and are generally keeping busy on lookout. 1030 am. We are arrived at Valencia port, with all […]

On watch, its 3am, and clear. Josh is on the helm, under motor as we have not enough wind to sail. Earlier, as we took over the watch, with more hands on deck, we were able to brace the main and fore mast. Not much shipping activity to report tonight.

03.30 Sunday 8th December; Alarm went off to get me up for the start of the adventure of a lifetime. Flew out of Bristol and arrived at Palma spot on time. Now to find the ship! Information from Southampton to get the No1 bus which proved to be correct. Saw some masts which looked like […]

Tenacious has been alongside in Palma for the past week, undertaking maintenance.  The weather was rather cold and wet the first few days and then very windy, something like the north of England is currently getting, but not as bad as up in Scotland!  The last few days, however, have been wonderful, light airs, bright […]

3 Day Summary Welcome back blog watchers Well, where do I start – The week started with a bleak outlook weather wise, with rain overhead and on the horizon. The first night we stayed in harbour due to a later arrival of voyage crew, not a bad idea as some were travelling all day. Day […]

Last night there was some very dramatic weather as we raced towards Palma, dark cloud 360 degrees around, with frequent lightning bolts and flashes from all angles. It was an extremely ominous scene, with not a single ship in sight all through the night. The sea was rocky and wild, more so than any other […]

The hills made for a dramatic arrival in Cartagena this morning, a pleasant Spanish town with lots of Roman ruins. Some good experiences so far; steering into Cadiz, dolphins under the bow, linesman duty. The stars are so bright sometimes. Heading off early in the morning as it’s a bit of a trip to Palma. […]

TNS day 8 13/11/13 Today started with ‘good morning, it is a beautiful day in Gibraltar’.  WHAT? Oh no, not backwards. Just a joke, but it definitely woke us. We worked on sail handling and now have a new line to shoot on shore, ‘we tacked, missed stays, boxed the sails and wore ship instead. […]

Day 6 I rose early to catch the sunrise to discover we’d stopped for a rest in the Gibraltar straights flanked by two continents, Morocco visible to our starboard and Gibraltar to our port. The clouds formed varying kaleidoscopic shapes, spiralling and streaking as the sun shone through lighting up the famous rock. Navigating into […]

A good night was had by all tasting the local tapas served in many small restaurants through the quaint narrow streets of Cadiz. Today, Sunday, we have a full day to explore the town at our leisure. Before we leave the ship Frances from, Aft Starboard, is hauled in a wheel chair up the fore […]

Day 4 Today we docked in Cadiz. Happily we were on watch at the time and got to see it all happen up close and personal. Steven won the fight to steer us into our berth. We then had the afternoon off to explore the beautiful town of Cadiz. It has lots of little alleyways, […]
