Captain’s log; star date 100 – oops got carried away there. Another glory day at shore and at sea. Started out with Port of Arrecife; ended on watch at 0400. First watch seven days ago was somewhat bewildering; last watch was wistful and lovely. Talking about lovely, it’s been that and more throughout. As they […]

It’s our penultimate day! Some crew still benefitting from a good night out!  Departed Arrecife 1000hrs with reasonable winds- enough to raise sails.  We sailed between the islands Fuerteventura and Lanzarote and between 1200-1600 (our watch) we had visits from five pods of dolphins.  Breezy and dull with cloud cover but excellent sailing overnight with […]

We left Fuerteventura Gran Tarajal, after receiving a civic reception on board.  Such generosity and kindness was shown to us in the guise of local food and drink AND much welcomed  as we hadn’t eaten for at least 40mins – such is the way we are starved on this ship.  Our redoubtable First Mate, Ali […]

We sailed through the night , a clear starlit night headed for Gran Tarajal on the Eastern coast Feurteventura , a small little known village which is off the beaten track and the tourist trail. We arrived and pulled alongside and tied up and secured late afternoon. We were greeted to a very warm welcome. Some […]

A bright sunny morning in Las Palmas harbour. After breakfast Ali (Mate) gave us the briefing about the ship and we then did the trial evacuation drill (2.5 minutes!! Well within the limit of 7 minutes, but today we had no wheelchair users to evacuate). Smoko on deck was celebrated with a huge pink birthday […]

Las Palmas – Gran Canaria Tenacious maintenance period is coming to an end, we can see the results of our hard work, painting, sail repair, welding, sanding and varnishing. When you go to the port gates on arrival you never imagine that you are just a few steps away from your new home and family […]

Day 10. A peaceful night sailing slowly south towards Gran Canaria. We saw two ships, and Rattler lost his hat while up on the yard, to the cheers of all the crew. Another starry starry night, our last at sea, so we took advantage of Aline’s fantastic knowledge of the constellations for a short star […]

Well another day under sail on the high seas. Wind is force 5/6 with a good high swell, plenty of pitching ,yawing and rolling, exciting time trying to have a shower, the soap makes things a bit slippy !!! Went aloft to the crow’s nest and spied a pair of dolphins which danced around the […]

On Wednesday a coachload of us crew went on a fabulous guided tour of the west of the island of Madera. Our guide Christina had excellent English, our driver Limon, none! We drove briefly up through the fine city of Funchal, up the hill through the smarter suburbs, past the spectacular Reid’s Palace Hotel, where […]

Well the voyage started in sunny Gran Canaria with temperatures well into their 20’s. Our pale white winter complexion slowly turned into a tan which the celebrities pay for! The voyage started with the normal safety training and evacuation drills… just in case. Then it was time to set sail and head north to Madeira. […]

Hi! I’m Anita, and a Tenacious virgin. My first voyage on a tall ship, and it’s day 2 on our passage from Gran Canaria to Madeira. We’ve been under sail alone for the past 24 hours on an NNW course, and are now about 60 miles from Funchal in a steady force 2. There are […]

Today the wind has dropped and we have set sail once again. After lunch we spotted dolphins who not only swam alongside but also accompanied us at the bow of the ship. This afternoon while keeping watch on the aft. Starboard side we spotted a turtle. The wildlife in this area is superb.
