MARINE DATA SYSTEMS is an award-winning British company established in 1978 (the same year as the Jubilee Sailing Trust!) and based on the Isle of Wight, England. For over 38 years Marine Data has led the world in the development and manufacture of marine navigation and control systems. These include: Transmitting Heading Devices, Compass and Heading Instrumentation, Rudder Instrumentation, Multi-function Navigation Displays, Power Supplies, Data Distribution and innovative modern Digital Interfaces for legacy Synchro and Step analogue systems.
The Marine Data brand has earned a worldwide reputation for excellence in the manufacture and supply of reliable and adaptable marine navigation and control systems for commercial ships, military vessels, the cruise liner industry, tugs and workboats.
Our recently acquired sister company, COMAR SYSTEMS, manufactures a range of marine Automatic Identification System (AIS) products specifically for the light commercial and leisure markets. The Automatic Identification System was developed to allow ships and coastal stations to accurately locate and identify one another using VHF radio. Over 25 years ago, COMAR pioneered the AIS market in launching one of the world’s first “receive only” AIS units. Because of the great safety benefits of having AIS, this technology was made compulsory throughout the world in 2002 for all passenger ferries and vessels over 300 gross tonnes.
