A true ‘bucket list’ square rig ocean passage.
Have the adventure of a lifetime on ship Tenacious!
After a couple of days exploring Auckland and training for the voyage, you will depart the ‘City of Sails’ and pass Rangitoto and the islands of the Hauraki Gulf, before sailing through the Bay of Plenty where you’ll see the plumes from White Island, one of New Zealand’s active volcanoes.
After rounding East Cape, one of the first landmarks to be spotted by Captain Cook, we’ll stop in at Port Napier, an Art Deco town rebuilt after a devastating earthquake in 1931. A final stop in Aotearoa (the land of the long white cloud) at Chatham Island will be the last land you’ll see as you sail out into the great blue yonder. Gain a ‘free day’ as you cross the International Date Line then head for Cape Horn, over 4,000 miles away. You’ll sail the Roaring Forties & Furious Fifties in what is likely to the best Ocean sailing Tenacious has ever undertaken.
From Cape Horn, Tenacious will head past the Falklands, up to 50 Degrees South in the Atlantic. With a 3,000 mile non-stop passage behind you, from 50 degrees South in the Pacific, all the crew will have met the criteria to become members of the International Association of Cape Horners (providing the entire voyage is completed under sail with no use of engine). More people have stood on top of Mount Everest than have joined this exclusive club.
After a celebratory glass of Bubbly, we’ll head South for the Falkland Islands, where all can experience the easily accessible colonies of rare and enchanting birds. Best known for penguins, the Falklands also harbour an impressive marine mammal community, who’ll likely be making an appearance.
Book your voyage on Tenacious today and join the crew of this iconic, ground-breaking tall ship. Tenacious is the largest operative wooden hulled ship in the world and turns heads wherever she sails. She was built by 1,500 mixed physical ability volunteers and includes special features not found on other ships (including wheelchair lifts, a speaking compass, and a joystick to enable everyone to helm the ship) which make her fully accessible and fully inclusive for everyone onboard.
Your voyage will be a working adventure holiday and everyone onboard is encouraged, and enabled, to take a full and active role in crewing the ship (including everything from setting the sails, climbing the mast, helming the ship and lending a hand in the galley). You will be part of a crew that changes lives – integrating between different physical abilities, generations and backgrounds.

The true cost of the voyage is listed below. This is so high because of the essential regulatory, maintenance and safety costs we incur.
Please let us know if you wish to make a donation towards the charity’s wider costs; or contact the fundraising team (+44 (0)23 8042 6868 or firstname.lastname@example.org) to help raise funds for the JST through participation in sponsored challenges or asking friends and family to donate to the charity.
All of our voyage crew spaces are subsidised through our continuous fundraising, however if you would like to pay the full cost for your voyage please refer to the Full Cost price listed below.
