Furling Gear - £6,000 Fully Funded

Many of Tenacious' sails are furling sails, that is they roll away when not in use, helping make the ship more friendly to our disabled crew members.  There is a need to replace this equipment as it tires and wears out.

Emergency Generator  - £36,000

The remaining generator to be changed after the main generators were replaced in the dry dock of 2020.  This provides power in the event that the main generators fail.

Through-hull valves that isolate ship's services from the surrounding seawater are a critical element of on board systems.

The original pipework from build suffers from corrosion due to electrolytic action of sea water and the fluids they carry.

Fridge Plant - £18,000

The ship's freezer and fridge spaces rely on a refrigeration system to keep them down to temperature, maintain food stores and feed the hungry crew.

Exhaust Spray Head - £1,800

The main machinery (engines and generators) have a water cooled exhaust silencer system and this head injects cooling water at the appropriate point.  These tend to corrode due to the corrosive nature of hot gases and salt water when mixed!

Chartroom Upgrade - £18,000

While she has always carried the latest required navigational and communications equipment, after 20 years of modifications and changes, the Chartroom would benefit from some ergonomic and aesthetic improvements to better incorporate the current equipment and allow for future upgrades.

GMDSS - £12,000

Tenacious carries equipment to comply with the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System.  Much of this has been replaced during recent years but there remain some items to replace, such as the NavTex receiver, the HF/MF Single Sideband radio and 'Sat-C' telex printers.

ECDIS - £15,000

In dry dock 2020 Tenacious was fitted with an Electronic Chart Display and Information System.  The Officers of the Watch (OOWs) would benefit from some software upgrades allowing more flexible use of the system as fitted.

Skull Microphones - £2,400

The firefighting teams are required to carry radios to allow the team members to communicate with each other as well as the command and control teams.  This would be improved with the addition of microphones that pick up the voice from vibrations within the skull and hence avoiding the issues of shouting into a handheld radio through a breathing apparatus mask!

Immersion Suits - £36,000

Tenacious is required to carry immersion suits for every crew member as well as a margin for safety.  This are serviced and repaired regularly but from time to time require a full replacement.

Engine Room Insulation - £36,000

The machinery spaces are required to insulated for fire-safety as well as noise reduction for comfort in the crew accommodation.

Fixed Gas Alarm - £12,000

The machinery spaces house equipment that contains or can produce gases harmful to health.  Portable monitors have been used to safely operate in these areas but installing a fixed system would be a significant improvement and allow working in more areas simultaneously.

Climbing Harnesses - £3,600 Fully Funded

Sailing a square rigged ship inevitably involves "going aloft" - that is climbing the masts.  Indeed, we encourage as many of our crew to be involved as possible.  Safely doing this requires harnesses and equipment to safely stop or "arrest" any fall.

Evacuation Davit - £3,600

In the event of having to evacuate or abandon ship, Tenacious has to have the capability to safely disembark our disabled crew.  There is a need to maintain and improve the crane arms that are installed for this eventuality.

Fire is one of the biggest enemies while on board ship.  We help keep our crews safe with fire doors between compartments and sections on board.

RIB - £24,000

Tenacious carries a RIB, a Rigid Inflatable Boat, which is used in a variety of roles including Man Overboard recovery, crew transport and ship manoeuvering.

Davits - £62,000

In addition to the RIB, a separate inflatable boat is carried for additional crew transport and to comply with safety regulations.  Both boats require cranes, or davits, to lift them off the ship and into the water.

Dishwasher - £4,200

Our crews are a hungry bunch and feeding 50 people, three times a day creates a lot of dirty dishes.

Upholstery - £30,000

Not that we believe our crew spend so much time sat down, there's always something to keep them busy, but the social areas of the ship would benefit from a refresh of the upholstery and soft furnishings after over 20 years of operations.

Cabin Refurbishment - £18,000

As for the flooring materials, wear and tear over the years of use means a need to refurbish and upgrade the crew accommodation throughout the ship.

Deck Covering / Flooring - £40,000

Over the years the deck coverings, or "flooring", has suffered with the many thousands of crew walking and wheeling around the ship.  New resin flooring needs to be laid.

Floodlights - £12,000

Tenacious is a beautiful ship and we like to show that off when in port using floodlights from above on the masts and below on the decks.  These lights also help the crew work safely at night when sail handling at sea.

Marioff Fixed Firefighting System - £9,600

The ship is protected by a water mist sprinkler system that activates when heat from a fire triggers it.  This system requires regular maintenance and update.
