The Trustees of the Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST) would like to sincerely thank everyone who contributed to last week’s emergency fundraising appeal, both financially and with their messages of support.

It was amazing to see such a strong validation of the JST’s mission and the heart-warming feedback from thousands who have been so profoundly impacted by our work.

As planned, the Trustees met today to consider the options now available in light of the funds raised.

Based on the overwhelmingly positive response, and the fact that we exceeded our £1m target (total funds raised currently exceed £1,090,000), the Trustees decided that the JST should now be in a position to continue its important work.

However, the Trustees recognise that recent events have raised significant questions about the viability of JST’s current operating model and want to implement a plan, out of previously identified options, to avoid returning to a similar situation in the future.

We have also received a large number of helpful suggestions from supporters, which warrant careful consideration by the Trustees, alongside the options already identified.

The Trustees have therefore decided to:
● appoint a sub-committee to urgently evaluate the various options for getting the organisation onto a stronger footing going forward – both in terms of mission impact and financial standing;

● defer using any of the emergency funds raised last week until one of these options has been selected and can be communicated in more detail;
● temporarily protect any new funds generated from donations or voyage bookings in a similar way; and
● conclude this planning process as soon as possible, so that the Trustees can start effectively using the funds which have been raised.

A further update on the future plans for the JST will be communicated by close of business on Monday July 22nd. The Trustees are also considering other ways in which to engage those who support and benefit from the JST’s work, and look forward to sharing more thoughts on this very soon.

Once again, the Trustees would like to thank everyone who got behind our campaign last week. It has given the JST the potential for a much more positive future and it is only right that we now briefly pause and take stock of the situation, in order to consider how this can be best delivered.
