We’re delighted to be taking part in the unique ‘Fly A Flag’ tribute in celebration of Commonwealth Day on 14th March 2016. The special event will herald this amazing and influential family of nations across continents, and we’re honoured to be involved.
A member of the crew on-board each of our tall ships will raise the Commonwealth Flag at 10am local time, wherever they may be in the world on the 14th March – Commonwealth Day 2016. The raising of the flag will be undertaken by a disabled individual, reinforcing the fact that this event is inclusive and NOT exclusive with the aim of encouraging other disabled people from all walks of life to take part in this project on a yearly basis, whether they’re on land or at sea.
Between now and the 14th March 2016, the Captain, accompanied by a disabled representative from both ships of the JST will present a Commonwealth Flag to a school or disability group in any Commonwealth country that both ships may visit between now and then, with the view to asking them to join us in raising the Commonwealth Flag at 10am local time on Commonwealth Day 2016 too. Where possible, the presentation of the Flag will be made to a disabled pupil from each school, again, re-enforcing the inclusive aspect of Fly a Flag for the Commonwealth. The Commonwealth Flags for the JST have been sponsored by Bruno Peek Pageantmaster Ltd. The ports we will visit include:
Antigua
Cocos Islands – Australia
Lord Howe Island – Australia
Sydney – Australia
Cook Islands – New Zealand
Tonga
Samoa
Fiji
Vanuata
Pitcairn Islands
