Barbara Campbell, former Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST) Captain, has received her MBE from Princess Anne in a special ceremony at Holyrood Palace, Edinburgh.

Barbara from Dunoon, Scotland, was originally awarded an MBE in the 2021 New Year’s Honours List, for her work with vulnerable people as captain of the JST. However, due to the pandemic, the ceremony was put on hold.

“It is a big honour for me personally and for all those connected with the JST, particularly the ships’ permanent crew and voyage crews, ” said Barbara, whose career at sea spanned forty years.

Barbara started her professional life at sea as a Deck Cadet with P&O Steam Navigation Co. in 1975. She spent her cadetship mostly on cargo ships and became a Third Officer and then a Second Officer onboard P&O cruise ships. She then became a Captain with JST in February 1999.

JST CEO Patrick Fleming said: “Barbara gave exemplary service to JST and all the organisations she worked for during an extraordinary career.

“Her dedication to JST and to all the many voyage crew who sailed with her will always be remembered with fondness and joy.

“Her MBE is a great honour for all that she achieved.”
