Amber Fisher is JST’s Fundraising Manager and has had a busy few months as we approach Tenacious’ Special Survey. Here she updates us on how your fundraising is helping us get ready for Tenacious’ next chapter and shares details of a very generous match funding opportunity from a long term supporter.

We’ve been really pleased to see people supporting Tenacious at Twenty all over the world, and in lots of different ways.

Some of you have donated towards specific Special Survey items like yard servicing and the gangway replacement, others have played Tenacious’ Birthday Draw, are throwing a birthday party for Tenacious or are taking on challenges such as rowing and cycling. No matter how you choose to support us, it all helps us raise funds for Tenacious’ Special Survey.

Maggie Campbell, a member of the JST Jersey Branch, has generously pledged to match every £1 donated to Tenacious at Twenty, up to a value of £5,000 from today. We’re extremely grateful for Maggie’s support, and of course to everyone who’s supported the campaign so far.

Maggie first sailed with us in 2005 on Tenacious, and has sailed with us over 40 times since then. She says: “I was so impressed by the whole experience that I immediately signed up to become Jersey branch secretary… for 11 years. I’ve sailed more times than I can remember as voyage crew, watch leader and cooks assistant. The JST has taken me to far flung places I never ever dreamed of going to (including around Cape Horn!) in the company of the most inspiring permanent crew and fellow voyage crew.

I hope that by offering to match donations up to £5,000 (whatever size!) we can make a good contribution towards what’s needed, and to see Tenacious sailing for many, many more years to come. And that she continues to provide the extraordinary, positive and life changing experiences for more people, whatever their age or ability.”

With recent donations we’re in the process of purchasing Tenacious’ engines. We’ve also ordered the new gangway, rope, propellor shafts and more. We still need funding for items including communications systems such as antennae, new sails, docking, rigging and safety equipment. We’ve shared specific details of the Special Survey costs here; we know it’s important for you to see how we use your funds.

There are so many ways you can support Tenacious at Twenty: you could hold a fundraiser at work, make the most of the weather by throwing a garden party, share our posts on social media, or take on a challenge like a sponsored bike ride.

The next £5,000 of donations will be match funded, and with the Special Survey due to start in less than a month there’s no better time to ‘jump onboard’ in whatever way you can. And, if you need any support with fundraising or ideas, drop us a line at and the team would be very happy to help.

Thank you so much to everyone who’s donated so far. We really couldn’t do it without you. Here’s to many more years of changing lives at sea!
