Global sailing charity the Jubilee Sailing Trust (JST) is swapping its tall ship, SV Tenacious, for dragon boats in its latest fundraising event.
The Jubilee Dragon Boat Race will be taking place at Surrey Docks on June 26th 2022, and promises a roaring good time while it raises vital funds for the charity.
Open to adults of mixed abilities, the race will see teams, coached by Dragon Boat company NewWave Events, battle it out on the water in a bid to be crowned winner.
The competition marks a long-awaited return to the Trust’s event schedule, after the COVID-19 pandemic meant the charity needed to postpone its public fundraising events and 2021 voyage programme as a matter of safety.
Now, with Tenacious sailing once more, the JST, which aims to give people of mixed abilities and circumstances opportunity through inclusive adventures at sea, is looking forward to an exciting summer.
Chief Executive Patrick Fleming said: “The Jubilee Dragon Boat Race is a hugely exciting addition to our calendar, and we are already receiving high interest from supporters across the country.
“Dragon boating combines all the skill and enthusiasm that we welcome onboard Tenacious. You don’t need to be a professional sailor to join in the fun, you just need passion, camaraderie, and great communication. We can’t wait to see how our teams work together to achieve something spectacular.”
Registration is £500 per team. Those booking before Friday 11th March 2022 will receive an Early Bird discount and will pay £450.
In addition to the registration fee, each team must commit to fundraising a minimum of £1,500 for the Jubilee Sailing Trust.
Patrick added: “We encourage a minimum of ten members of team, which means participants will only need to raise £150 each. So, please round up your friends, colleagues or family and create your team to take part in the Jubilee Dragon Boat Race.”
