Read our blog from Strategic Partnerships Manager, Philippa Clare, to find out more about the JST’s 2020 Mediterranean Programme and how we’re approaching the planning of this exciting series of voyages.
Next summer, the JST will be delivering an exciting voyage programme in the Mediterranean with The Stelios Philanthropic Foundation and The Yianis Christodoulou Foundation.
Like all JST voyages, we’ll be providing transformative experiences to people of mixed ability and circumstance - it’s what we love doing and have been doing for over 40 years. Across a four month period, we’re aiming to provide at least 320 beneficiaries with the adventure of a lifetime.
And we’ll do this working in partnership with two organisations who have a shared commitment to people facing challenges in their life, whether it’s because of disability, mental health, social isolation, social mobility or economic circumstance. We know we can achieve more by working collaboratively in this way, it’s something we’ve seen across all our partnerships.
For the charity though, it’s also an opportunity for us to look at running our voyages slightly differently.
Usually we run public and partner voyages separately, but we’re looking at combining these approaches. During the Mediterranean programme each voyage will have a number of fully sponsored berths for beneficiaries of participating charity partners, and the remainder will be open to everyone, as would be typical of a public voyage.
We know that our best voyages often include a mix of more and less experienced voyage crew. This formula will allow a more experienced voyage crew (who are our best ambassadors and sum up why voyages are so inspirational and fun!) to sail with those newer to our work who may be experiencing it for the first time.
It also means that anyone joining a voyage, whether as a JST supporter or with a charity we’re partnering with, will be part of a truly unique mix of people on board - even more so than a typical JST voyage. This will enable us to reach a more diverse range of people, who may not otherwise meet or know each other in their everyday life.
We’re always keen to try new ways of running our voyages and we’ll be gathering feedback as we go, especially as we look ahead to our UK hubs programme in 2021.
Are you interested in joining us in the Mediterranean in 2020? We haven’t visited the region for almost ten years and there’s some incredible trips in the mix, including visits to the Greek Islands coinciding Orthodox Easter, and stops in Monaco and the Islands of Malta and Palma.
You’ll be on board with a diverse range of people who all share the JST ethos. Who wouldn’t want to be part of that?
