Amid sporadic gunfire from the nearby Army firing range, the Lord Nelson and Tenacious are now hunkered down in Chapman’s Pool. With lights dimmed to take best advantage of the area’s Dark Sky Park, the crew lounged on deck or enjoyed some rest in the bar after a third day’s hard racing.

Both ships left Freshwater Bay early this morning for a 35nm mostly downwind race in glorious sunshine before motoring back to Chapman’s Pool anchorage. Despite all sail being set and the best technical sailing efforts of the Lord Nelson’s crew (yard-fanning and the “bra sail” being our two main innovations), we were unable to close the gap on the larger, sleeker Tenacious. Even deploying “The Funnelator”, a large three-man catapult loaded with water bombs, was unable to win us back the advantage.
