Day 58
So here we are on the final leg of the journey. Overnight we were joined at the anchorage by Oostershelde and a few cruise ships passed in the night. After picking up the pilot we motored up the Beagle Channel, mostly in pleasant sunshine. Celia, on Captain Chris’ orders brought the ship into a gap on the quay that was only just a bit longer than Nellie, lines went ashore and engines finished about 1700. Immigration control was prompt and so the crew had their first run ashore this year. Strange that having travelled to the other side of the world, most of the crew found their way to an Irish bar!
Just to add icing to the cake, we have been informed that despite not quite getting up to 50 degrees south after rounding the Horn, the International Association of Cape Horners has accepted that our voyage was completed in the spirit of the Association and we are all therefore accepted for membership. We are all real Cape Horners!
