Capt. Chris Phillips
The voyage crew joined at 0900 and following a welcoming warm beverage and bacon butties there was the usual safety briefing. We cast off at 1100, heading for the Solent. The forecast was E –NE winds, freshening to force 7, so Capt Chris, on opening the ship to the full weight of the wind, wisely opted to sail north of the Isle of Weight in the lee of the land.
Nelly performed wonderfully, reaching a speed of 8 knots with no royals or courses set.
A peaceful night was spent at anchor with the odd drink in the bar, then, as previously arranged, next morning, the ship sailed back to the entrance of the Solent where she met the launch, Jenny M. The voyage crew were quickly transferred to the faster vessel and taken to the ‘No Mans Land’ fort in the estuary for a champagne lunch.
Nelly made her way back to Pompie and the visitors, after their superb visit to the five-star showpiece conversion, returned shortly after to collect their gear and report they’d had a very interesting and pleasant visit.
A successful event.
