FAREWELL O SHETLAND ISLANDS
It may be raining here somewhere in the North Sea, but we set off from the exotic Fair Isle bathed in sunshine and lovely hospitality from the natives. We had anchored yesterday morning and the PCs ran a Doti boat taxi service to the only landing space so that we could tour the island. Locals kindly ferried us around and chirpily described what was going on such as the museum, lighthouse, shop, bird observatory and shopping for the genuine Fair Island knitwear. Even the beach was inviting for Euan, acting watchleader, who had the coldest swim ever (13 degrees: almost tropical – Ed.). And some of the local youth came on board to look around while we were at play. Last evening we hoisted sails and sailed the night. Sadly, it all means that the hols are over too soon…
