TNS463 15/07/16 – We have just left Noumea in New Caledonia. We motored into Noumea on a Monday too find a closed town. On Tuesday the weather was fabulous and the
voyage crew soon went their various ways to investigate the island. A
popular place was the Island of Ducks approached very easily by water taxi
and word soon spread about the incredible snorkelling, mediocre food and the
glass bottom water taxi. Snorkles were shared around so everyone could see
the fantastic coral and meet Nemo. Also the aquarium was a highlight and the
maritime museum. We were lucky enough to be in a French colony to enjoy the
bastielle day celebrations which included a lantern parade, fireworks and
let’s not forget the talented violin playing can-can troope. Unfortunately
due to unforeseen circumstances there was a 24 hour delay which enabled
further investigation of the island. All in all most people enjoyed New
Caledonia which included because of our unexpected late departure a bag pipe
serenade. Which was missed by most of the voyage crew who were tucked in
their bunks before 8pm. Leeuwins hat is the official uniform for Tenacious
Fiji to Sydney. We motored out of Noumea accompanied by a tug jet skies and
hundreds of wind surfers.
Next stop (hopefully) Sydney.
