Access To The Ship
Access to the ship is via a gangway which is approximately 74cm in width.
The gangway has rope handrails available.
The gradient of the gangway varies according to the tide.
There is a deep step at either end of the gangway.
Permanent crew always assist wheelchair users on to the ship.
The gangway gives access to the bridge.
There are specific times for embarking and disembarking.
The Bridge
The bridge is the platform from where the ship is commanded.
The bridge has an adjustable chair, talking compass and a joystick which can be used as an easier alternative to the steering wheel.
The chair can also be moved laterally and there are Unwin clamps for wheelchairs users.
On Deck
There are tactile strips along the decks to aid people with visual impairments.
There is Braille signage in some areas of the ship.
There are also arrows on handrails to direct people.
There are pulley hoists and safety harnesses available so that wheelchair users can access the first platform on the masts without transferring.
Level Change & Lift (Well Deck and Chart Room)
There are steps to access this area / service.
The steps are located leading down to the well deck from the bridge.
There is / are 5 step(s) to the area / service.
The steps are clearly marked.
The steps are deep.
The steps do have handrails.
There is a standard and / or platform lift to access this service.
This lift gives access to the well deck and chart room from the bridge.
The lift is a platform lift.
The lift is 10m (11yd) from the gangway.
The dimensions of the lift are 0.84m x 1.1m (2ft 9in x 3ft 7in).
The controls for the lift are within reach for a wheelchair user.
Level Change (Chart Room Lobby)
There are steps to access this area.
The steps are located leading down to the lobby from the chart room.
There are 7 steps to the area.
The steps are clearly marked.
The steps are deep.
The steps do have handrails.
There is a platform lift to access this service.
Upper Mess
All tables are permanently fixed.
The upper mess is where main meals are eaten.
There are sloped thresholds leading into the upper mess from the lower deck.
The upper mess has fixed tables but the end ones are height adjustable.
There are bench seats and unwin clamps for wheelchair users.
There are no chairs with armrests.
A professional cook and a cook’s assistant produce three cooked meals a day.
Specific dietary requirements can be catered for if detailed in the voyage booking form.
Plastic cups, plastic cutlery and drinking straws are available on request.
Assistance can be provided if necessary.
There is a television in the upper mess which has subtitles.
Lower Mess - Companionway Steps & Lift
There are steps to access this area / service.
The steps are located between the upper mess and lower mess.
There is / are 13 step(s) to the area / service.
The steps are clearly marked.
The steps are deep.
The steps do have handrails.
There is a standard and / or platform lift to access this service.
The lift gives access between the upper mess and the lower mess.
The lift is a platform lift.
The dimensions of the lift are 0.75m x 1m (2ft 5in x 3ft 3in).
The controls for the lift are within reach for a wheelchair user.
Accommodation
The voyage crew sleep in bunks on the lower deck.
Males sleep on one side of the lower deck and females on the other.
Wheelchair users have cabin bunks which are 60cm high.
Lee cloth bunk guards are available to prevent people falling from bunks when sleeping.
Some of the bunks are fitted with Unwin fastener strips in front of the bunks to secure wheelchairs.
Vibrating alarms are available on request.
Personal whistles are available to alert people if voyage crew require assistance.
Lower Mess
The following information is for the bar.
No tables are permanently fixed.
Some chairs are permanently fixed.
No chairs have armrests.
The distance between the floor and the lowest table is 56cm (1ft 10in).
The distance between the floor and the highest table is 56cm (1ft 10in).
Accessible Toilets
The toilets are not for the sole use of disabled people.
There is tactile signage on or near the toilet door.
The accessible toilet is located on the lower deck.
There is level access to the accessible toilet.
This is by lift.
Accessible Shower
Accessible shower facilities are available.
The showers are located in the accessible toilets.
The facilities available in the accessible shower are an adjustable shower head, handrails and a flip down seat.
