Last year I joined Tenacious for a voyage up to Iceland.
It was slightly different from the norm as we had young leaders from the British Exploring Society (BES) on board carrying out a ‘sea phase’.
There was a great mixture of crew on board, and some pretty incredible experiences were had too. Ship heeling and sail handling in freshening breezes, deploying a trawl in the ocean, collecting water samples and some rather chilly and wet night watches. Definitely something for everyone there!
The main highlights for me? A close call between seeing a small glimmer of the Northern lights while sailing off the southern coast of Iceland and going for an ocean plunge at anchor just west of Reykjavik. Both were unforgettable moments.
