What?
In late summer 2018 the Jubilee Sailing Trust was thrilled to work in partnership with the Army Cadet Force and several charities, including RBLI, to deliver the Lord Dannatt Round Britain Challenge (LDRBC): commemorating 100 years since the end of the First World War.
This poignant and high-profile event also coincided with the Jubilee Sailing Trust’s 40th anniversary and JST’s celebration of the difference we have made to over 50,000 lives through the power of shared adventure at sea.
LDRBC was delivered on board our ship, providing an adaptive and enabling environment where everyone is seen and treated as equal and contributes to the best of their ability. Barriers break down, differences disappear, social bonds form and people start to appreciate the ability and potential in others. Our ship gives people of mixed abilities and circumstances the freedom to explore their ability, potential and place in the world.
A total of 78 cadets aged 16 – 24 alongside 43 wounded, injured and sick veterans, 2 Army Cadet Force support staff and 2 additional voluntary Watch Leaders sailed over the four voyages, changing crews at each capital city visited. The final crew member was a Tommy silhouette kindly donated by There But Not There.
