New Year’s Eve was greeted in traditional ships fashion with all the crew on the bridge with a glass of cava and party poppers and the old year was rung by the eldest voyage crew and the new year rung in by the youngest. We also had a Spanish tradition as we were alongside in Denia in that you eat a grape for each chime. Some of the crew then went ashore as there was a big party in the square.
New year’s Day dawned with a welcome late breakfast and the ships photo and Happy Hour. After lunch it was time for assisted climbs aloft. We then spent a second night alongside in Denia and a lot of the voyage crew took the chance to have a meal ashore.
On the second of Jan we left Denia and set sail for Barcelona. The sails were set and we were heading towards the Balearic’s so had to tack ship. After this was done the wind decided to die down so we had to motor for a while. The wind picked up and during the night we managed a lovely 7Knot speed at times. The sunset was spectacular and caused the sails to go a lovely orange colour.
