Joining day started with a slightly larger vessel looming over Tenacious in Southampton docks. The Queen Mary had followed Queen Victoria into the birth next to us.
Preparations continued all through the morning before the voyage crew started to arrive. Signing on, issuing of wet weather gear and familiarisation then commenced. The afternoon was taken up with briefings and evacuation drills until it was time for happy hour. This is the euphemism for cleaning and a very important part of the ship’s routine.
After eating the evening is being spent with the crew getting to know each other, looking forward to tomorrow and discovering all the routines of the ship.
