Joining day of voyage 394. Most of us flew into Genoa airport having run away from the floods of Britain only to be confronted by dark skies and heavy rain in Italy. We didn’t mind as this was to be an adventure in the Gulf of Genoa for an 8 day trip. We all soon settled in our bunks and took up the night watches while in harbour.

Day to leave port after further safety briefings and evacuation drill. Hands aloft was postponed for —-yes more rain. By now we were feeling like we never left England.

14:20 we singled up and set off for the island of Elba where Napoleon had been imprisoned during his career. We had an overnight sail which had an amazing display of lightning and thunder and of course our friend the rain.
