Days 3 & 4 21st & 22nd August
Day 3 saw the Tenacious pulling into anchorage between the Farne Islands and Holy Island off the Northumbrian coast. There then followed a hive of activity aboard with Happy hour and assisted climbs. Then an early lunch and the boats were launched and the crew ferried ashore to explore Holy Island and its various gardens and buildings including some amazing boat houses… no not houses for boats but small houses/shacks made from boats. Then it was back aboard and dinner. Followed by weighing anchor and we continued our voyage southwards along the coast. Passing during the night, the metropolis of Newcastle and the north east coast.
Day 4 found us approaching the Yorkshire seaside town of Scarborough.. a pre-arranged meeting point with one of our regular volunteers ‘Fred the Fish’ who has ran trawler’s out of the port for many years. As soon as we had anchored and lunched the boats were again launched and the crew ferried ashore to find out what delights Scarborough had to offer. We were met on the quay by Fred who apart from lending a hand getting people ashore also supplied us with some freshly caught fish that we all look forward to sampling in the days ahead. We became a bit of a tourist attraction sitting in the bay just out from the port, and very quickly all the speedboat tours etc. were coming out bringing their passengers to view the tall ship. We were regularly visited by the local ‘pirate tour’ and many of the PC were seen and heard to be making their finest pirate impressions to the delight of the children aboard the pirate tour. As the evening approached so the crew came back aboard then the brave souls amongst us tried swimming from the ship for a while, before all enjoyed an alfresco dining experience on the deck as the sun went down.
It’s an early start in the morning as the captain wants to set off early as we make our way further southwards, this time we are led to believe across the channel to Brugge, but who knows that may change as does the weather.
