0931 – Tuesday.

We left Dartmouth bound for Warbarrow Bay! Virtually the whole day spent under sail. Evening revelries in Dartmouth beginning to show with one or two members of the VC!!! Anchored for the night and spent an amiable evening comparing our childhood encounters with ‘the Cyrils’ of this world and our lucky escapes. Wednesday we woke up to a dullish day but with a plan to visit the abandoned village of Tyneham in the afternoon. Dai Rees gave a fascinating talk on Operation Julie which was the defining drugs bust operation by the British Police to bring to justice the Makers, sellers and distributors of LSD in the mid 70’s. Dai who was a member of the original investigation saw the eventual disbandment of the Drugs Ring which was mainly made up of counter culture academics and professional people. Virtually all the key criminals were brought to justice and much of the money recovered. Various walks were attempted by some voyage crew. In the evening a quiz was hotly contested and the losing teams claiming unfairness and lack of clarity from quizmaster Dai – no change there then. The teams comprised of all the watches and a Permanent Crew team, needless to say that the PC team romped to a resounding glorious victory, sweeping all before them. A definitive aspect of this voyage has been the quality, quantity and volume of the Sea Shanties – led by Martin with energy and knowledge – knowing just the right moment to raise our spirits as well as entertaining the adoring crowds at Dartmouth.
