Second day of racing. Today it was to be a one to one race with no time handicap for The Lord Nelson.
We set off from anchor, which involved a lot of line pulling, bracing and best of all, sail setting. Lord Nelson managed a better start but just before the wearing point Tenacious was out in front. Wear ship was very entertaining, lots of sails, clewlins and sheets all thrashing about and the crew with their backs to the railing trying to brace the yards. Mostly we were standing up to our knees in water pulling until Tenacious sped off on a new course and then finally to win the race! Back at anchor in Sweetwater Bay.
The Voyage Crew and Permanent Crew alike had a challenging and slightly wet day – some of the Bosun’s Mates were seen fishing mackerel out of their boots at one point….
Evening time and a very informative and entertaining talk on the Antarctic from our Second Mate Will, before a tired and happy crew retired to bunks, ready for the third and final day of racing. With the score standing at one all, there is all to sail for……….
