With the recent launch of our Summer 2023 voyage programme we thought now would be the perfect time to share a nifty new app, often referred to as the ‘Strava’ of sailing, with you all.
Introducing SailTies, an Android and Apple app created by two sailors, Tom and Chris, who wanted to track and treasure their sailing adventures.
SailTies is available for us to use and enjoy, and will give you, our voyage crew, the opportunity to store the rich memory of your Tenacious voyages in one place.
In a nutshell, the free app can track voyages, save photos and notes, and record key stats, such as the distance travelled and time taken.
It provides the perfect solution to log who you sailed with, and can let you collaborate with fellow crew members. Only one person needs to record, everyone else can share photos and other voyage updates so you can enjoy reading a team-documented experience.
The app is also fantastic for family and friends back at home who wish to follow where you are in the world. Simply post an image of your voyage straight to social media or send a link to friends and family. They don’t even need to download the app!
Tom and Chris are working to make SailTies more accessible as they continue to develop their app. They will make sure they keep everyone updated on their progress as and when these features are implemented.
Gaia Riva, a relative newcomer to the world of sailing, decided to use the app when taking part in a Competent Crew Course with Nomad Sailing. She said:
“I started recording all of my sailing on SailTies. SailTies is a free, modern alternative to the paper logbook, which allows you to capture all of your sailing in one place. It made it easier to look back on my adventures and share them while crewing, chartering, and building my sailing qualifications. It’s easy to lose track of how far you’ve come as you develop as a sailor.
“Scrolling through my feed gives me a sense of achievement and nostalgia while, at the same time, getting me excited for my next adventure.”
Two of Tenacious’ voyages are already on the app, search for ‘Jubilee Sailing Trust’ in the Groups and see what our crews got up to earlier this year!
Sara, who first tested the app for JST, said:
“I loved the idea of being able to track our voyage, and to be able to share our position instantly with my friends and family at home. Afterwards it was great to see more of the voyage crew joining and adding their own photos to it – and then to see the crew on the next voyage do the same and share their experience as well!
I can’t wait to use SailTies again the next time I go sailing!”
