Look no further for a new year challenge this Winter by joining us for a Big Break Out Weekend in February and March onboard JST’s Tall Ship Tenacious. Become part of the Jubilee Sailing Trust team, working with our permanent crew and volunteers to experience life on a tall ship, learn new skills and make new friends.
Starting in Portland Harbour situated in the heart of the world-famous Jurassic Coast you will join the Ship on Thursday evening and spend some time over the weekend in Weymouth Bay and perhaps venturing further afield if weather and wind allows. Whilst our intention is to go sailing this will (as always!) be dependent on the weather which as you know is unpredictable! If sailing opportunities are limited we will have plenty to keep you entertained,
What to expect
This will not be an ordinary JST voyage! There will be the usual goodwill that is always there on Tenacious but in addition there will be the opportunity to hone your existing skills and learn new ones. There will be speakers and team challenges. For those new to the JST there will be a chance to learn about what we do, for our existing crew there will be a chance for you to pass on your knowledge.
You will have the opportunity to climb the rigging and experience the thrill of being aloft in a large sailing ship. For those people who may require assistance to go aloft or are less confident, our Permanent crew and volunteers will be on hand to help you. There is specialist equipment available onboard so you can push the boundaries of what you think you may be capable of. Here at the JST we take pride in removing barriers and enabling people of all abilities and backgrounds to take an active role onboard.
Come and join us onboard Tenacious and experience a snapshot of what a longer voyage might be like. It’s time to throw off the shackles of the last two years and get ready for the next adventure.
The JST needs you!
For those crew that haven’t been onboard before our volunteers will also assist the permanent crew in coaching you in the arts of seamanship and Tall Ship sailing and help with confidence building through a variety of activities and working as part of a team. You will in turn be directly helping our regular volunteers to refresh their skills and develop new ones, therefore improving how we deliver our voyages.
In the evening there will be time to reflect on the events and achievements of the day. There will be time to relax and unwind below in the company of your fellow shipmates and enjoy the natural camaraderie that is the result of shared experience. Perhaps there will be music and singing as well as conversation between new found friends and old acquaintances alike.
The galley is the heart of the ship and our fantastic cooks produce great food and there is lots of it! All hands will be well looked after by the galley team.
