This is a voyage with many navigational options dependent on the prevailing weather and wind. A visit to the continent, a jaunt along the Jurassic Coast or even a visit to some of the other Channel Islands are all a distinct possibility before going alongside in Jersey. All will provide some fantastic sailing.
Whichever passage taken, you will benefit from a plentiful amount of time aboard Tenacious – forming lasting friendships with your fellow voyage crew, having great fun, pushing your boundaries and supporting others to overcome their fears. Voyages like this leave impressions that last long after you’re back on dry land.
Captain Darren says: “I’ve heard it described as a “JST feeling” – and I’d agree with that. It’s hard to put into words how magical it is when voyage crew come together and do something they never thought themselves capable of. It could be climbing the mast or simply spending time with people they wouldn’t normally spend time with in their everyday life. But it’s exactly that – a feeling you get on a JST voyage – and that’s priceless.”
What to expect
As with all our voyages, everyone on board has a role to play as part of a Watch. Without our voyage crew, we can’t sail. If you’re looking for luxury and want to lie on deck and catch some rays, then this is not for you.
But if you’re up for experiencing a unique camaraderie and want to be part of an incredible team then read on. We promise you’ll leave the ship with a sense of achievement at what you’ve experienced and a fresh perspective on your (and others’) ability.
Sailing on Tenacious
Don’t worry if you’ve never sailed before – most people step on board with no experience of sailing a tall ship.
You’ll be part of our Voyage Crew, and be put into one of four teams called Watches. You’ll learn from our Permanent Crew and will take part in all the tasks necessary to operate the Ship, whether that’s setting sail, helming (steering) the Ship, assisting in the Galley or climbing the mast – though that one’s not compulsory!
And you’ll enjoy time off watch every day to take in the scenery, get to know others on board and take part in the activities we have planned. Our beautiful tall ship Tenacious becomes your home for the duration of your voyage – we want you to be comfortable and enjoy the experience of being on board.
*What you pay
Thanks to the generosity of our supporters we are able to subsidise all our voyage places. If you can, please consider making a donation or fundraising towards the full cost of your voyage. This means we can continue to offer this subsidy to those who are less able to afford our adventures.
Why sail with the JST?
Our voyages are not just boat rides in amazing settings. JST sailing adventures are about giving people the freedom to explore their ability, potential and place in the world.
Life on board is about joining in and getting involved. Everyone is seen and treated as equal. Everyone has a role to play and contributes to the best of their ability.
It’s in this unique environment that we see daily challenges fade into the background.
As Michael says: “I can honestly say going on the ship changed my life. I saw others on board deal with huge challenges – people with physical disabilities like the blind young man on my watch. Being in that environment made me think for myself and realise my priorities.”
