Join us on board our beautiful tall ship, Tenacious, for this fantastic voyage off the UK’s South Coast.
Starting and finishing in Portsmouth gives lots of options to hop across the Channel to the French coast or sail along the coast towards Dorset – all weather dependent of course as we go where the wind takes us.
This voyage will appeal to those looking for a trip going into and out of the same port, and therefore easing your travel arrangements.
Whatever the weather, you’ll enjoy the experience of Tenacious in her home waters doing what she does best; enabling everyone to work together to sail her and make magical memories that will last a lifetime.
Captain Simon says: “From Portsmouth, places like Dieppe or Cherbourg are within range if the winds are at all helpful – and the fresh seafood is even more welcome, having worked up an appetite on the way across!”
What to expect
As with all our voyages, everyone on board has a role to play as part of a Watch. Without our voyage crew, we can’t sail. So if you’re looking for luxury and want to simply lie on deck and catch some rays, then this is not for you.
But if you’re up for experiencing a unique camaraderie and want to be part of an incredible team then read on. We promise you’ll leave the ship with a sense of achievement at what you’ve experienced and a fresh perspective on your (and others’) ability.
Sailing on Tenacious
Don’t worry if you’ve never sailed before – most people step on board with no experience of sailing a tall ship.
You’ll be part of our Voyage Crew, and be put into one of four teams called Watches. You’ll learn from our Permanent Crew and will take part in all the tasks necessary to operate the Ship, whether that’s setting sail, helming (steering) the Ship, assisting in the Galley or climbing the mast – though that one’s not compulsory!
And you’ll enjoy time off watch every day to take in the scenery, get to know others on board and take part in the activities we have planned. Our beautiful tall ship Tenacious becomes your home for the duration of your voyage – we want you to be comfortable and enjoy the experience of being on board.
*What you pay
Thanks to the generosity of our supporters we are able to subsidise all our voyage places. If you can, please consider making a donation or fundraising towards the full cost of your voyage. This means we can continue to offer this subsidy to those who are less able to afford our adventures.
Why sail with the JST?
Our voyages are not just boat rides in amazing settings. JST sailing adventures are about giving people the freedom to explore their ability, potential and place in the world.
Life on board is about joining in and getting involved. Everyone is seen and treated as equal. Everyone has a role to play and contributes to the best of their ability.
It’s in this unique environment that we see daily challenges fade into the background.
As Kate says: “As a carer I felt worn down. It’s important to feel alive – and that’s what the JST gave me this week.”
